ZAKA FEST

Annual Folklife & Roots Festival

South Florida is home to many Haitians, and in Miami-Dade, Haitians make up roughly 150,000 of the county ’s residents. For 10 years, ZAKAFEST has championed the preservation and promotion of Haitian folklife and roots culture through its annual festival and educational programs. Each year, ZAKAFEST showcases Miami and Ayiti-based folklife artists in the performing and visual arts. This year, we look forward to bringing yet another avenue for cultural tourism in Miami.

Established over 10 years ago, ZAKAFEST’s mission is to educate and promote Haitian folklife and roots music in Florida. Our vision is to uplift Haitian contributions to folklife and cultural tourism.

Our areas of impact include:

  • Education: Inculcating folklife history, folk music and dance workshops, and student–artist exchange opportunities.

  • Cultural Tourism: Showcasing interactive & live performing and visual arts

  • Community Engagement: Empowering local wellness offerings, artisan craftsmen and women, and small businesses
